Linn Svahn is off to the best possible start to 2021. On the Tour de Ski, he first took home the victory in the sprint, and then went on to win the massive start as well in a blast.

After the subsequent victory, Svahn was asked to get in a photo with the other two on the podium. These are grips that are often used on victory shots. However, Svahn refused to line up and remained on the ground as Yuliya Stupak and Jessica Diggins jumped.

– It shouldn’t be the case that women jump, scream and moan while guys are allowed to stay cold on the ground without lifting their glasses, Svahn tells Sportbladet about the action.

Swedish skier Ebba Andersson reacted to these differences as early as last year and does not recall seeing the men have to jump into the frame after a victory.

– It is not that I feel that it should be the same between ladies and gentlemen. We are different as individuals, naturally. But you wonder why it’s so rare to see a jumping image of male cyclists, he tells Sportbladet.

Frida Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist also think it strange that women are encouraged to jump after tough races, while men are often allowed to stay on the ground.

– It feels unnecessary. In that case, the boys could do it too. It is good to escape. So you are often leg tired, Karlsson tells Sportbladet.
