Frölunda by Max Friberg is fine. Outside Oskarshamn, Gothenburg claimed their fifth win in a row and regained the league lead in the SHL after a 5-2 win.
However, it was not so much fun for Oskarshamns IK, who suffered their 16th consecutive defeat in the SHL.
– It’s sad to go out in the new year and lose, today we do a lot of good things, Oskarshamn team captain Jonas Engström tells C More.
The home team started better in the first period, but the puck didn’t want to get behind Niklas Rubin in Frölundakassen. Instead, the guests could take the lead through Jesper Sellgren in the first minute of first period.
– I had to make some fun saves so that was good, Rubin tells C More about his strong start in the match.

Oskarshamn tied through Markus Modigs in the second period, but then the Smålanders were neglected in a power play. Max Friberg fought well, broke the puck and served Mats Rosseli Olsen 2-1.
After that, Frölunda never let go of the match.

Skara IK product Christoffer Ehn, who like Max Friberg has a past at Skövde IK, scored Frölunda’s 3-1 in the second period.
When Patrik Carlsson made it 4-2 with just over four minutes to go in the period, it felt like the game was punctured.
– The first period is not something we take with us, but we really took a step forward in the second and third and we deservedly won, says Niklas Rubin.
Frölunda regains the league lead from Rögle after the fifth consecutive victory. Oskarshamn loses ground after a good start to the season and remains in eleventh place after the team’s sixteenth consecutive loss.
