Jessica Diggins is the new leader of the Tour de Ski. The American edged out Frida Karlsson on the last lap of Sunday’s freestyle hunting trip.

Rosie Brennan scored a double win for the United States, while Karlsson had to settle for a third.

Linn Svahn, who took the lead, finished sixth.

Already a few hours before the start, Linn Svahn extended her lead at the start of the hunt.

Then, the Slovenian Anamarija Lampic, after the appeal, regained second place in the initial sprint of the circuit. This led to second and third in total, American Jessica Diggins and Swedish Frida Karlsson lowered their snapshots in the results list, to third and fourth place respectively, and therefore the position was also recalculated in the summary.

Lifted quickly

This meant that Svahn was 19 seconds ahead of second runner-up Diggins (instead of 13) and 20 seconds ahead of third Karlsson (instead of 18).

But it wasn’t long yet, about two miles, before Karlsson, Diggins and another American, Rosie Brennan, caught her.

The quartet held together halfway, but then Svahn was forced to let go as Karlsson sped up a bit more.

Heavy for Andersson

Then it was Frida Karlsson against the USA, and the Swede was unable to remove the two American shoes. Instead, it was Diggins who made a move in the last kilometer, and then Karlsson couldn’t respond.

Rosie Brennan was second, while Frida Karlsson was third, finally 10.7 seconds behind the new leader of the general classification, Diggins. Linn Svahn lost a lot of time but struggled for sixth place, 1.12.9 behind Diggins.

For Ebba Andersson, things keep going bad on the slopes of the Tour de Ski. Andersson came out in 15th place, a minute and a half behind Svahn, and lost three more places. He is now more than two minutes from the lead.

Monday is a rest day on the tour. After that, competitions continue in Toblach, Italy, where the fourth stage, 10 kilometers freestyle, will be decided on Tuesday.
