The message is simple: ignore the crown advice

That is the message of Eliasson and others

Published:

The message sent by the leaders of the state apparatus is simple.

Crown restraints in all their glory. But you can interpret them a bit however you want. He is not so careful.

I really don’t know what to say. Sad? No judgment? Or just incredibly clumsy.

Ten days before Christmas Eve, MSB, the Swedish Civil Protection and Emergency Planning Agency and the Swedish Public Health Agency sent an SMS to all Swedish mobile subscribers.

They wanted to remember new sharp restrictions and recommends that you update by getting the latest from the krisinformation.se site. AND

He said, among other things, that one should try not to travel to other places. If you do it anyway, you shouldn’t know anyone other than those you traveled with. The fellow travelers, then, no one else.

Flights are not included at all Among the modes of transportation mentioned, it was so implausible. If it was not possible to reserve a seat on a train or bus, I would prefer to go by car.

A few days later, Dan Eliasson, director of MSB, boarded a flight to Gran Canaria to celebrate Christmas with his daughter, who is staying there.

The CEO traveled to Spain for Christmas.

Eliasson has a huge resume. He has been Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice, with the then Minister of Justice Thomas Bodström (S). He has been head of the Swedish Migration Agency, head of the National Police, head of the Swedish Social Security Agency. In a broad sense, you have worked safely for most of your professional life.

But despite that, and despite the text message to all the Swedish people, he thought he could go to the Canary Islands for a couple of weeks at Christmas. In this context, it can be remembered that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that one assumes a very great responsibility if one goes abroad these days. You just don’t know when you will get home. Local restrictions can appear as unexpectedly as quickly.

Eliasson explained that his trip was “necessary”. Oh seriously. I know many who have embarked on journeys of a similar kind. Precisely because they weren’t necessary.

His trip, and his explanation, adds to other unwanted messages from the main representatives of the state apparatus.

Stefan Löfven in the Gallerian shopping center in Stockholm.

Stefan Löfven conducted a case in one mall even though he spent the entire fall admonishing not to be careless, but to strictly follow the advice of the crown. One of them is to avoid only shopping malls.

Morgan Johansson, Minister of Justice (S), took the opportunity to buy some during the Löfven noon sale and the head of the Public Health Agency would have preferred to cancel. To name a few examples.

It is often said that children don’t do that you say without how you do it. The same probably applies to adults.

Therefore, the general message to the Swedish people is not just the information that the text message wanted to spread a little over two weeks ago.

Instead, you can do a bit like you want to. The rules can be interpreted in any way you see fit. Or at least through your own wishes.

Was that the intention? Obviously not. It’s okay? The answer is an equally obvious no, even to that question.

Stefan Löfven and Dan Eliasson during a press conference on the coronavirus in March.

It may be that Eliasson, Löfven and the others have been incredibly elegant. But it may also be the case that they think, like many others unfortunately, that the advice doesn’t really apply to them. Let them go in sour cream.

That would be devastating. Until a vast majority of us are vaccinated against COVID-19, not just once but twice, what counts is social distance. Nothing else seems to help against the spread of infection.

Hans Wallmark (M) handled the crisis Sunday even before the crisis broke out for him. He apologized on social media for going to the Canary Islands at Christmas.

Wallmark is a member of parliament. He is also chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Apologies are certainly good, but even better is to think before. Which neither did he.

In the next few weeks and In the coming months there will be new press conferences, new advice and new restrictions. In a week, the new temporary pandemic law will take effect, giving the government the opportunity to close shopping centers and malls, for example.

But with what weight will citizens receive the new tough messages? At worst with a grimace. At best, only with significantly less credibility than before Christmas shopping and trips to the Canary Islands. In fact, I feel a bit rebellious.

Note: Yes, I have left the home region twice since March. One day trip to Sala and two days to Uppsala. Both trips were made on empty trains. Night in an empty hotel. Another guest in the breakfast room.
