The SUS VAT department in Malmö. During the pandemic, traditional working methods have changed and developed. Based on this, an exchange of skills and tasks has taken place, which has meant that many employees have been allowed to work to the best of their abilities, the article’s authors write.

The Skåne Region has worked to build on the lessons learned and experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic and has produced a report focusing on the work during the spring of 2020.
The report is full of valuable analysis and observations, and contains around 50 suggestions for improvements and new ways of working that can be used even after the pandemic.
Therefore, the Skåne region is better equipped to deal with the ongoing pandemic. The lessons also facilitate the important adjustment that needs to be made to improve Scanian’s healthcare.
Alliance for Scania Identify three areas where it is very important to work.
1. Close care
We prioritize a transition to close care where care takes place as close to the patient’s home as possible. A paradigm shift is needed so that hospital care is not at the center of attention.
It’s also about the care that people can give themselves. Perhaps many early stage people can manage their illness on their own if the Skåne Region can provide sufficient support over the phone and through digital counseling.
During the pandemic, the Skåne Region has strengthened mobile care as doctors reach out to patients and provide care in their homes. Remote monitoring has also been strengthened. More than 200 patients are monitored at home and monitored at home where values such as ECG and blood pressure are measured. As a result, hospitals have been relieved and have been able to provide space for patients who most needed hospital resources.
The care that people receive at home must be of at least as high a medical quality as that in hospitals. The fact that healthcare personnel carry out individual assessments and obtain the consent of patients and their families is a prerequisite for care to be carried out at home.
There is a need to develop mobile care and strengthen mobile care teams, which often include nurses and doctors. Municipalities, and not least their nurses, are important to making personal care work.
Primary care, that is, health centers, should be given greater responsibility and more resources. Primary care has been extremely important as more care during the pandemic has shifted outside of hospitals.
2. Digitization
In a short time, the Skåne Region has made great strides in terms of digitization and phone and video contacts. During the first 35 weeks of 2020, 179,997 remote video contacts were made. This is a 252 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
We are convinced that this is the future and now we need the entire Skåne Region to embrace and work on the slogan “digitally when possible, physically when necessary”.
This requires a minimum standard for all digital services in the Skåne Region health operations. People living in Skåne need to know what to expect and what opportunities there are, regardless of the company they are in contact with.
With the help of digital solutions, patients during the pandemic have been able to perform some tasks that have traditionally been performed by healthcare, such as sampling for covid-19 and HPV. Of course, it will continue even after the pandemic.
3. Employees
The most important resource for the Skåne Region are employees. During the pandemic, extremely significant work has been done and is being done and there has been a renewal thanks to employees who, through collaborations throughout the organization, have found and implemented new solutions.
Traditional working methods have changed and evolved. Based on this, there has been an exchange of skills and tasks, which has meant that many employees have been able to work to the best of their abilities.
It is extremely important that the work that goes by the name RAK (skills used correctly) continues and benefits from the change that began during the pandemic.
The pandemic is Stressful But crises give rise to renewal and we are convinced that in the end, in some places, it will bring something positive. It is now important that the Skåne Region benefit from the experiences and lessons that the corona pandemic has provided. Both to face the ongoing pandemic and to face the challenges of the future.
