Canadian Dylan Cozens edged Czech goalkeeper Nick Malik and scored the first goal of the game.
The home nation and reigning world youth champion Canada are in the semifinals, after defeating the Czech Republic 3-0 in the world youth ice hockey championship.
Canada completely controlled the quarterfinals. The Czechs did their best, but had no chance against the Canadian star player.
The scorer started in the ninth minute, when Dylan Cozens went free in front of goal after a beautiful play by Connor McMichael. Three minutes later, Bowen Byram, with a strong shot from behind, put the puck behind Czech goalkeeper Nick Malik. Byram was named the best player of the match.
However, the Czech Republic refused to give up. The team squeezed hard in the closing minutes after taking out the goalkeeper, but failed to get a hole in Canada and Connor McMichael finally managed to put up a well-deserved 3-0 final in the empty Czech Republic area.
Russia and Finland are also ready for the semi-finals, after victories against Germany and Sweden respectively. The United States and Slovakia meet in the final quarter-finals, which are played early Sunday morning Swedish time.
