The time when hunters had to manually observe and report elk numbers is over; now the king of the forest will have his own artificial intelligence technology.
At the moment, images of moose are being collected in the forests of Gävleborg as part of an EU project, reports P4 Gävleborg. Gävle University and the Swedish Forestry Agency have jointly placed cameras in the forest that are activated by heat and movement. With the help of artificial intelligence, it should be possible to recognize individual elk and thus obtain information about the elk population in forests.
– You can look at the face of the moose if you have a good picture of it and then the artificial intelligence technology recognizes that particular individual, Marcus Larsson, project manager of the Swedish Forest Agency in Gävleborg, tells radio.
The moose must also be recognizable in other biometric data, such as size or head-to-body distance. In the future, the idea is that the same technology can be used to map other types of animals.
