Rescue work continues on Saturday in daylight.
Although the chance of finding someone alive after the landslide at Ask in Norwegian Gjerdrum decreases with each passing hour, search and rescue work has taken a break overnight.
The work is considered dangerous in the dark, as rescue personnel must be alert to the edge of the avalanche where new landslides may occur and expose personnel in the area to danger.
– Today it has collapsed from the steep edges of the avalanche and the rescue leader thinks it is too dangerous to continue searching at night when it is dark and it is impossible to see the edge of the avalanche, says the task leader of the attention side, Bjørn Nuland, to VG.
Nine people are still missing. A death was found on New Years Day.
– We are not wasting time, because much of the success is based on good planning and information gathering, Police Task Chief Roger Pettersen told VG on Friday afternoon.
