The goalie side was undoubtedly one of the Junior Crowns’ strongest weapons prior to junior WC in Edmonton.
Hugo Alnefelt, Jesper Wallstedt and Calle Clang were involved and won gold at the U-18 World Cup at home in Örnsköldsvik and it is the same trio that took over the goalkeeping spots at this year’s JVM.
Hugo Alnefelt has been the first team for a couple of years in the national team, but before the quarter-finals against Finland, it is no longer so obvious.
Alnefelt started the first two games against the Czech Republic and Austria. Against Russia Jesper Wallstedt came into play and did well.
When the United States defeated Sweden in the final group match, Alnefelt was back in the area, but conceded four goals in 24 minutes and was replaced, and that makes the goalkeeper’s situation more open before the playoffs.
– We will sleep on the matter and speak with both gatekeepers and leaders. We feel safe with all three and we will talk to each other and see how we adapt to Finland, says Joel Rönnmark.

Edmonton is eight hours behind Sweden in time difference and players will be notified during the day who has a chance to start against Finland.
– The boys want a message the day before the game and we usually do it so that whoever is going to start and who is going back can prepare. So we do not usually go out to the media with the decision because we meet an opponent who is curious about how we train but usually the goalkeepers know it the day before, says Rönnmark.
There will be a fiery quarter-final between Sweden and Finland and preparations for the match are underway.
– Usually we had met them a couple of times during the fall and got a better control, but generally they are good at power play and skilled so it will be crazy for us. We must not end up too much in the ejection cabin and that is something we must make sure to find a cure for. But it suits us, it will be a lot of fun meeting the Finns and it will be a great challenge for us, says Rönnmark.
Sweden faces Finland on Saturday at 9.30pm Swedish time.
