Ivanhoe star Sam Neill’s greeting to Sweden on Twitter: “It must be the year”

For many, the gentlemen’s movie “Ivanhoe” has become almost as obvious a topic on the New Year’s Day agenda as pizza.

Five years ago, actor Sam Neill, 73, also became part of the tradition.

He then claimed that Swedes are crazy once a year.

“The Swedes, bless them, have shown once again that although they are among the most rational, they ARE crazy once a year, everyone looks at Ivanhoe”the New Zealander, who plays Knights Templar Brian de Bois-Guilbert in the film, wrote on Twitter.

Since then, Neill has been sending Swedes a little hello on New Years Day. And this year was no exception.

“Sweden! Drive Brian. This MUST be your year,” he writes on Twitter.

The 72-year-old also takes the opportunity to advertise his wine and writes that he will soon be able to buy it in Sweden.

“Two Paddocks wines will be available in Sweden soon, but not in time for Ivanhoe today.”

Not proud of his achievement

In an interview with Expressen 2019, the “Ivanhoe” actor recounted how he learned that the 1982 film has become an important part of the Swedish New Year celebration.

– I think it was a good person who wrote to me from Sweden: “Do you know that this is a tradition in Sweden at New Years?” and it was a total surprise. And I think that was probably four or five years ago.

At the same time, Sam Neill said that he is not too proud of his performance in “Ivanhoe”.

– It’s really not my best effort, and there are one or two scenes where it’s no exaggeration to accuse me of playing again. So … I could never believe that people would keep looking at this 40 years later or whatever.

“Ivanhoe” airs on 14.50 TV3 and Viaplay.

Actress Ivanhoe’s cock against Sweden

Every year, Ivanhoe actor Sam Neill expresses his surprise at the fable of the Swedes for the gentlemen movie. So he wrote on Twitter on New Years Day 2018.
