A 75-year-old man is seriously injured after his electric bed began to burn, local media report.
The accident occurred at the man’s apartment in a special residence on the outskirts of Norrköping early on New Year’s Day.
The affected man was taken by ambulance to hospital with serious injuries. His condition is critical and he is being treated in an intensive care unit, according to Norrköpings Tidningar.
In connection with the fire, the automatic sprinkler system in the residence was activated, which also caused water damage to the building.
– The priority at this time is to talk to the staff because obviously this is also a difficult event for them. After that, the facility will be examined to see how much damage the fire has caused, Ann Chatrine Aspblad, unit manager in the accommodation, tells the newspaper.
According to information from the police, the fire is suspected to have started after a short circuit in the man’s electric bed, reports P4 Östergötland.
