There are floods in Arvika and Säffle, Swedish radio reported on New Year’s Eve. Flood protection has been implemented to protect nearby urban areas.

At the same time, SMHI has issued a class 2 warning for high flows in the region.

According to Sara-Sofia Asp, head of the hydrological forecasting service of the SMHI, the alert will continue until the flows decrease in range.

– It is still increasing, so it will remain today and a few days ahead, he says.

New Year’s deals otherwise with cloudy weather throughout the country, with a lot of rain in various forms.

– Down over Götaland and Svealand it can fall as rain or snow. From parts of northwestern Svealand and beyond Norrland, there is clearer snowfall, says Alexandra Olsson, a meteorologist at SMHI.

If you go out on the roads, there is a risk of ice skating in parts of Svealand and Götaland, as there is a risk of precipitation falling on the cold roads. To the north, on the other hand, it can be slippery during the day and until Saturday.

– There you have to be a little more attentive if you go out to the roads, says Alexandra Olsson.

After a pretty poor snow December, in some places, there may be some snow during the weekend, mainly in Svealand and South Norrland. Further south, however, it turns to snow or wet rain. In Götaland, rainfall will decrease.

After the snow, the sun comes, in the north of the country. With that come the cooler temperatures and the weekend ends with a break in most of the country.

– Clear areas appear to extend across southern Norrland. Even western Svealand can have some sunny opportunities on Sunday, says Alexandra Olsson.
