The first Gothenburger of the year is 49 centimeters tall, weighs 3,180 grams and is called Ebba.

– We have both liked the name for a long time and it is a surname from me, says mother Helena Jonebrant.

Come straight from the new year’s party

It was a different New Years Eve for the family.

Helena Jonebrant and Ebba’s father, Erik Sandström, had just had time to celebrate the New Year with some friends when Helena felt it was time. The trip was directly from the party to the birth at Östra Hospital.

– New Years dinner was really all the preparation together with friends. It really was a question of when, and not if that day would be, says Helena Jonebrant.

Ebba was actually scheduled for January 13, but she didn’t want to wait longer than 04:17 on New Years Eve, which means she now earns the title as the first Gothenburger of the year 2021.

How does it feel to have received the first Gothenburger of the year?

– It was very unexpected actually. Partly because it was so late, 17.04. He was almost convinced that it would be someone who was born a few minutes after twelve, Helena says.

Bubble bottle as a hiking gift

Due to the corona pandemic, Father Erik has now gone home from birth. He is waiting at home with Ebba’s older brother, Alvar, 2, who is looking forward to meeting his little sister.

– Yes actually. He has talked a lot with both his little sister and her. Then he feels encouraged, says Helena.

In addition to congratulations from family and friends, the family has also received greetings from the family who were the first to arrive in Gothenburg last year.

– It’s a little hiking gift that we didn’t know about. So they gave us a bottle of champagne and a greeting, very nice. We will do something similar next year, says Helena.
