A strange year ended in an unusual way, with the corona pandemic as a backdrop.
Most of the official celebrations had been canceled and in a closed Skansen there was no shaky audience in the venue that followed performances by, among others, Tomas Ledin, Lisa Nilsson, Kaliffa, Sarah Klang and Amanda Bergman.
But despite calls to stay home, there were many in the country who left around noon to traditionally fire four rockets. In Stockholm, the official fireworks were lit, but the night sky over the capital was still illuminated by colorful rockets, the sound of which accompanied Sofia Helin’s reading of Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poem “The New Year’s Bell.”
– Ring the bell …
Lord Tennyson’s famous words have been read in Skansen at New Years since the late 19th century. Sofia Helin previously thought they sounded great on New Years Eve, but now they have a different tone to her.
– Now I think the poem is in line with unification, in the direction of light and openness, he told TT before the honorable task.
– If it gives strength to think “now we have a little more strength”, it would be fantastic, he continued.
