After the prime minister criticized Justice Minister Morgan Johansson’s Christmas shopping, and urged him to follow the recommendations of the Public Health Agency, he himself visited the Gallerian in Stockholm on December 20.
According to Löfven staff, there were several cases. It is said that Löfven made a watch, went to Systembolaget, bought a Christmas present for his wife Ulla and bought food. As recently as December 23, he was back in the store to get a replacement part for his knife.
When Expressen revealed the visit to the Gallerian, press secretary Mikael Lindström said it was “a carefully planned affair.”
And now the prime minister chooses to comment personally on the visits.
“Understand that people have reacted”
It is through his Instagram that Stefan Löfven writes that “many” have done their best to follow the advice and recommendations available, including himself.
Löfven continues:
“I understand that people have reacted when they read that I did business in December. I bought food, repaired a watch, found spare parts for my razor, went to Systembolaget and bought a Christmas present for my wife Ulla. On these occasions, I have made sure that there has been no congestion. And I too, like many others, always try to follow the advice and recommendations of the Public Health Agency. In hindsight, of course, I’m wondering if, for example, Ulla’s Christmas present could have been ordered online instead, on time. “
Shopping and travel
This week, there have been reports from various ministers and people in power deviating from the authorities’ recommendations.
As recently as yesterday, Expressen was able to reveal that MSB CEO Dan Eliasson traveled to the Canary Islands before Christmas. Additionally, Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson visited a ski rental in Sälen until December 20, which Aftonbladet was the first to report.
Morgan Johansson, in turn, is said to have made purchases during the noon sale in Lund on December 18. It was the same day that Stefan Löfven announced a series of strengthened national restrictions, in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
One of the measures was a congestion ceiling in shopping centers and stores.
– I hope and believe that everyone in Sweden understands the seriousness, said Stefan Löfven then.
