Halland Hospital went into personal mode on Wednesday. The increasing number of covid patients in need of medical attention is the reason. Health workers have been forced to interrupt the Christmas holidays and non-emergency care is postponed.

– The development of the pandemic in Halland continues in the wrong direction and the health care situation is tense, says Johanna Wiechel-Steier, director of communications for Region Halland.

Other hospital care is also affected by the current situation and operations are expected to be postponed.

– The pressure on intensive care is great and full inpatient capacity is needed for emergency and high priority activities. Therefore, only emergency surgery and high priority planned hospital surgery will be performed during weeks 1 and 2. This means that patients who will undergo other operations, which can be medically performed at a later time, will have their operation postponed. says Johanna Wiechel-Steier.

At the same time, there is a high level of sick leave among care staff and hospital staff are ordered to work after hours to resolve staffing.

– The hospital is now working hard to staff the places of care and create the conditions for good patient care and a working environment. High sick leave among hospital employees makes this more challenging. To manage staffing, canceled and interrupted vacations and boarding of employees are required, which has already been demanded and therefore must continue, says Johanna Wiechel-Steier.

Another measure is for the region to add a total of twelve epidemic care sites in Halmstad and Varberg.

The region hopes that this development will continue and urges everyone to follow the recommendations of the Public Health Agency.
