At twelve o’clock he is toasted with champagne. But not all.

Many Swedes choose not to consume alcohol when the bells ring.

23 percent of Swedes respond that they plan to abstain from alcohol on New Year’s Eve, in a poll conducted by Sifo on behalf of Weight Watchers.

Among women, the figure is 26 percent, while 21 percent of men take a white night.

The survey also shows that a higher proportion of younger than older people plan a sober celebration.

Younger plans to be more sober

In the 16-34 age group, 27 percent plan to celebrate soberly.

Among those 35 to 55 years old, 24 percent plan a sober new year.

And among the 56 to 79-year-olds range, only 20 percent plan to abstain from alcohol, according to the survey.

– In the current circumstances, it feels positive that so many choose to celebrate a white New Year. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with celebrating the new year with a little bubble or other alcohol that you appreciate, but this year more than ever, it is important to do it very carefully so as not to put your health or that of others at risk, says Karin Nileskog. Viktväktarna’s diet expert in a press release.

There are also more men who choose to drink liquor on New Year’s Eve: 15 percent of men versus 3 percent of women will drink nubbe or a drink, Viktväktarna writes in the press release.
