A police patrol on the outskirts of Åmål was hit by a car driving at high speed on Wednesday night. When the driver did not stop, a longer chase began.
– They recognized the car and the owner. But he didn’t stop at the patrol sign, says Torbjörn Roos, a police duty officer in the Bergslagen region.
The chased driver managed to get rid of the police. But the Värmland police were able to withdraw the chase and stopped the car south of Grums.
– I decided to put a nail mat. It seems there was also something wrong with the car because it started burning, says Torbjörn Roos.
The driver, a man in his 50s, is not said to have been physically injured, but is now suspected of driving under aggravated drunkenness, aggravated illegal driving and gross negligence in traffic. He has been questioned but is no longer in detention.
In connection with the arrest, a police car fell into a ditch, but neither the police nor the car were injured.
