A flight between Miami and New York became the first since the model airplane ban was lifted and, according to the airline, there were no booking changes among passengers who had tickets for the flight, writes the Wall Street Journal. The aircraft manufacturer Boeing’s model 737 Max was banned from flying by US and international aviation safety authorities in March 2019 after the model was involved in two fatal accidents that over a five-month period were claimed a total of 346 lives.
According to American Airlines, the intention now is to gradually start using the model again in the company’s traffic, but to give customers the flexibility of being able to book a ticket with another aircraft model if they feel unsure. The world’s largest airline, United Airlines, has announced that it will relaunch the model starting February 11, 2021 and then with flights from Denver and Houston, while low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines intends to wait until March of next year.
