Örgryte can take over Kopparberg / Göteborg.

The club has now called an additional board meeting tonight.

– It is my duty, says the president of Örgryte, Joacim Nordh, to SVT.

Already the day after the Swedish champion team from Gothenburg finished their elite activities, rescue can be found. Because Örgryte, with a men’s team at Superettan, will now consider whether he should take over the business.

This at a board meeting that President Joacim Nordh called in an instant.

– We will evaluate the problem. We have the organization for that and we already have a women’s team that has won the fourth division. What we have said with our women’s business is that it must be allowed to grow carefully and in a controlled manner. It is my duty to ask the question of our board. This was absolutely nothing I saw coming, Joacim Nordh tells SVT.

But it is not entirely a given that Örgryte can retain his place in the damallsvenskan if he takes over the elite business.

– Depends on how you do it. It’s hard to say something with 100% certainty, there is no blueprint for something that we would normally have allowed. It is not possible to say that something has been done, but high-level associations in the serial system have certain additional requirements. It must be tried on a case-by-case basis, Swedish Football Association lawyer Christine Strindberg tells Sportbladet.

According to the regulations, the team that will play the damallsvenskan 2021 must have applied for an elite license no later than tomorrow, December 31.

“We will go ahead with that”

Gothenburg coach Mats Gren tells GT that he hasn’t given up hope.

I believe in this and I enjoy being in the group with the girls and being on the field again. You get involved in a different way than you did before as a sports director. That’s why I’m pretty tough on those I know to help take this further, he tells the newspaper.

– The feeling is that we will go ahead with it. Because this is a very hard blow for women’s football in Gothenburg. There is no other team here that is even close to being able to take over. It will take many, many more years, if it happens, he says.
