Fancy a crackling fireworks display for the New Year? Today, both of you may need to apply for a permit and attend an education; Also, there may be different rules for different places to pay before you bank.

First of all, your age is critical to all hits, emphasizes Rolf Weinander in the explosives handling unit at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).

Also, different municipalities may have different rules, but in most cases it is fine with fireworks only on New Years Eve. Here, however, there may be exceptions for different places within the municipal boundary. Shooting in the vicinity of animal facilities and airports, for example, is rarely okay.
– If you want to be sure of doing the right thing, you should check with your municipality which places and times are allowed. It may be that in some places there is a ban on New Years Eve.
But even when it’s free for New Year’s pyrotechnics, it doesn’t really apply to fireworks. Firecrackers are totally banned across the country, and rockets with a stick can only be launched if you have a permit and training.
– Those sold in most large retailers can be used in most cases, says Rolf Weinander, explaining that the lowest F1 category includes flares, ice torches and similar products with a low risk of damage.
The highest level, F4, can only be used by professionals. In the central section, F2 and F3, there are fireworks for those over 18 years old.
– It’s about Bengali fires, fountains, stickless rockets and then mostly pastels – a box containing a series of tubes that postpone various effects and where a piece is lit, says Rolf Weinander who emphasizes that there is always an age requirement here .
– It is not allowed to go to buy fireworks for your children.
The novelty of this year is the pandemic, which for natural reasons slows down the festive atmosphere. We are urged to maintain a social distance, and many municipalities have also avoided annual public fireworks celebrations so that no crowds can arise.
The idea is that people just stay home. But will it lead to fewer fireworks, less shenanigans, and less damage in the long run?
– It is difficult to evaluate, says Rolf Weinander.
– What is a small concern is that municipalities have canceled their events as a result of the pandemic, which could mean that more people buy theirs and want to skyrocket.
Rules for rockets
The new permit requirement for joystick rockets applies from June 1, 2019 and requires a permit from the municipality for the use of explosive products and that you have completed the so-called B or C education.
The requirement also applies to rockets that were purchased before the change in the law.
You must be 18 years of age or older to purchase, own, or fireworks. It is forbidden to jump to those under 18
Rockets with more than 75 grams of gunpowder, mini rockets and firecrackers are banned in Sweden, as are other fireworks with an explosion as the main effect.
Each year, about 100 people are so seriously injured that they must go to the emergency room. The vast majority of accidents occur on New Years.
