Then you are vaccinated against the crown in Västra Götaland

Vaccination against covid-19, with the Comirnaty vaccine from the companies Pfizer and Biontech, has started in Sweden, as in many other countries. People who live in nursing homes or receive home care are the first to leave and will be followed by senior care staff and those who live with someone who receives home care.

The Västra Götaland region has chosen to start by giving the elderly a first dose and then the staff who take care of them come, while other regions have chosen to graze one municipality at a time.

– We hope to be able to handle the entire first phase in January, if the vaccine supply is available, says Kristine Rygge, Vaccine Coordinator for the Västra Götaland region.

Those in the first group will be vaccinated where they live, near home or at work.

The second phase of vaccination began in February.

During the joint press conference on Tuesday, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said the second phase could begin in February. And that is also the hope of the region.

– When we have made sure that they have received two doses in the first phase, we pass. Then we will go out widely in the media and on invitations that “now it’s your turn,” says Kristine Rygge.

In the second round, it is the turn of the rest of the health personnel, people over 70 years of age and people from other risk groups. But it is not yet possible to book vaccination visits through the health centers. When the time comes, the region will send subpoenas, call, or report widely through various means.

– Right now you should sit quietly in the boat. It is possible to call the health center, it always does, but preferably they should not do so because they are very overwhelmed by other things. We promise that when there is information on how to book, it will come out, says Kristine Rygge.

Get more staff

The second group will be vaccinated through primary or hospital care. Those over 70 years of age and who do not belong to any other risk group will receive their injections mainly in health centers. And for this phase, there are enough staff, according to Kristine Rygge.

– In the phase that we are now, absolutely, and we have acquired external capacity to help us with municipal care and nursing staff, he says and adds that the acquisition is expected to be completed this or next week.

But today there are not enough people with the skills when it is time to offer vaccines to the general public.

– Then we will vaccinate both through primary care, occupational health and acquired capacity, among other things. We see that we need more people to help when we get to the public, says Kristine Rygge and explains that they are working to ensure that capacity at this time.

The general public, instead of receiving letters or phone calls, will be informed that it is time through important campaigns. There, the region will talk about possible drive-through solutions and where to book.

Then you get information

Elderly in housing or home care, as well as personal. If you live in a nursing home, are a nursing home staff member, or receive home care, vaccination will take place at your place of work, where you live, or close to where you live. These vaccinations have already started.

70+ and other risk group. If you are in another risk group or are older than 70 years, you will receive a summons by mail or by phone where you will be offered a vaccination. Your vaccine will likely be given in a health center or hospital. These vaccinations are expected to begin in February.

The public. If you are between 19 and 69 years old and not in any risk group, you will probably have to wait until April or later to get vaccinated. How, where and when it will take place, the region will announce through the mass media and the main information campaigns.

Vaccination is free and voluntary. The Pfizer-Biontech vaccine is given in two doses.

Vaccinate the public before the summer

According to Sweden’s vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström, it may be time for general vaccination in April, but when the region is ready to start, Kristine Rygge won’t say so.

– The vaccination of the public begins when we have guaranteed the vaccine for the priority groups. Whether it’s April or June remains to be seen, he says.

The intention is that all Swedes should have been offered a vaccine before the summer. But it may look different in different regions.

Have you collaborated between the regions on how it should be or has each invented the wheel in their own direction?

– We all have different conditions and we cooperate with municipalities and primary care in different ways, which means that each has its own way of working, says Kristine Rygge, adding that the regions exchange experiences with each other.
