In Stockholm, the police have received hundreds of calls from concerned citizens who speak of careless firing of rockets and firecrackers. In Trollhättan, chaotic scenes took place when young people in the Kronogården area on Tuesday night set off fireworks on stairways and balconies. When the police arrived at the scene, rockets were also aimed at vehicles and personnel and reinforcements had to be called in to defuse the situation.
Since many events with crowds have been canceled, MSB also predicts that more people will buy their own fireworks for New Years Eve.
– In general, the risk of injury increases, and then also increases the burden on the already seriously affected healthcare system. We cannot afford that right now. So, be careful to follow the advice for fireworks, said MSB communications director Morgan Olofsson at Tuesday’s press conference in conjunction with the Public Health Agency.
