As of Tuesday, December 29, just over 2,900 travelers who came from Denmark to Skåne had been turned away under the new entry ban from the Swedish government.

Most of the rejections are made by people driving over the Öresund Bridge. There, more than 200 people have been turned away every day in Lernacken and there are sometimes long lines at the bridge.

– We appeal to travelers not to try to get to Sweden if it is not necessary. The load at border controls is high and you run the risk of having to queue for a considerable time only to receive the sad news that you have to return, says Anders Wiberg, commander of the special event that the police of the southern region decided handle entry ban.

Normally 100 is stationary

In a typical week, the border police in the Southern Police Region reject for various reasons around 100 travelers entering Sweden via Denmark. With the government travel ban on travel from Denmark and the UK introduced on December 22, that number has skyrocketed.

Not only are Danes turned away, but also other nationalities who traveled via Denmark to Sweden or flew to Kastrup in the belief that they can then travel to Sweden.

The entry ban is valid until January 21, but can be extended if necessary.
