Since 5pm on Monday, the lines have been long at the Öresund Bridge heading towards Malmö, and the waiting time to get to the border control has been up to two hours.
Queues at the toll booth on the Swedish side of the Öresund Bridge on Monday evening. The waiting time was up to two hours to get to the border control.
The reason is the entry ban from Denmark in combination with many vehicles wanting to enter the country.
– Since 17-18, there are long lines at the bridge and people have had to wait an hour and a half or two to get to a check-up, says Rickard Lundqvist at the police command center.
At 10.30pm the queue was still long and there was no sign of a decrease in waiting time.
– It is high pressure, many vehicles want to enter the country. At the same time, we have to control the cars and it takes time. In cases where people are rejected, there are certain procedures that must be followed and it takes even longer.
In total, between 100 and 120 people were turned away at all border checks against Denmark overnight.
– Some of those who have been rejected have been less satisfied with the message but there has been no real dispute during the evening.
The queue curled up Monday night.
Border police always try to tailor staff to how they expect traffic to look, he adds.
– Of course, it is unfortunate that people have had to wait so long. But this is a decision that has been made and we must carry out these checks, says Rickard Lundqvist.
