Follow Frölunda’s meeting with Rögle

Before the start, Frölunda receives a late re-declaration. The experienced Anders Grönlund, brilliant at the end, throws in the towel and suddenly 17-year-old junior Simon Edvinsson will join Jonathan Sigalet.

Nervous, of course, but a chance for revenge for the skilled defender who was selected out of the MVP squad as late as during preparatory training camp in Sundsvall.

And Edvinsson probably shows he’s at this level.

His fourth game in SHL is also his best, and he almost became a scorer.

The shot he fires, however, hits Nicklas Lasus’ post before disappearing over the crossbar behind Christoffer Rifalk in Rögle’s goal.

Here and there, Frölunda has put Rögle at a disadvantage again and has gone from 0-1 to 2-1.

The first period is full of speed hockey, where Rögle and Frölunda trade opportunities with each other. He’s going too fast when Adam Tambellini is released into the castle, and he can easily shoot 1-0 off the cross behind Johan Mattsson, who is back in goal after a tough workout.

But Frölunda gets up.

The turn

Back Filip Johansson realized in the last match – two goals against Linköping – that it is worth shooting. Then he does it again.

This time, Christoffer Rifalk returns, and Friberg shaves him off his knees. 1-1 – and the Skövde boy’s ninth goal of the season.

– When we place the bow check and fix it, there are many situations, when they go with two or three boys to the corners. It will be open towards the goal, explains the scorer.

It also feels like a playoff game at times, but melee tough and rough in various places. Patrik Carlsson, Mats Rosseli Olsen and Robin Alvarez are involved in small disputes.

– I think both of us as a team are aggressive. Now we have a game on our legs since the Christmas holidays and we have become warmer, says Max Friberg.

But despite the shot by Simon Edvinsson, who controls Lasu, coach Roger Rönnberg is not entirely happy with the attack before the third period.

– The check is good. We skated a lot and we broke his passing game well. In the attacking game, we don’t really get into goal, so we have to turn it around a bit.

But one thing Rönnberg likes:

– It’s wonderful to see a healthy and injured team advance! People have really stepped up, and I think all men are 100 percent involved.

Tributes to the comeback goalkeeper

In the third period, Rögle looks for a draw, but Johan Mattsson plays big and Jesper Sellgren goes 1-3 with an empty net.

After the game, Nicklas Lasu chooses to pay tribute to goalkeeper Johan Mattsson, who made a couple of important saves at the end of the event.

– It’s been a few games since he stood up. It was fun for him to step in, to step in and help us to victory. Okay mentally, nice skull of him there.

Frölunda is now at the top of the league, two points ahead of Rögle but with three most played games.

– They lead the league and have been good all season. We’ve been a little longer in every other match and it takes a lot of match after match – when you get to round 20, the teams start to get to know each other. More are needed between rounds 20 and 30 than the first ten. But it is a process. We have a lot of new guys on the team joining for the first time. It is clear that this victory is very important for us, Nicklas Lasu tells C More.
