After the Christmas weekend, the situation images from several regions show that more and more people are being treated in hospitals for covid-19. In the Skåne region, the wards have had a strong influx of sick patients. Since December 23, the number of patients rose from 406 to 482 on Monday, which is the highest since the pandemic broke out in the region. However, the intensive care unit has been at the same level over the Christmas weekend with about 50 corona patients.

Healthcare in the Västra Götaland region also has a high and continuous burden. On Monday morning, 521 patients were treated for covid-19, which is a new record for the region. That’s 37 more than on Dec. 23, when 484 patients required hospital care for the virus.

Uppsala and Halland There are two other regions where healthcare has been pressing right now, according to local media. In Halland, 39 people are being treated today at Halland Hospital for covid-19, according to Hallandsposten.

– These are significantly higher figures than we had before, says Johanna Wiechel-Steier, director of communications for the newspaper’s region.

In Uppsala, 21 people are currently in intensive care for covid-19 and 135 patients are admitted to the wards, according to SVT Uppsala. Before Christmas, the corresponding figures were 13 and 120, respectively.

In Stockholm, care is provided today about 800 people with covidis in the hospital and almost 90 people in intensive care. Depending on the region, the number of hospitalized patients has neither increased nor decreased.

– It is worryingly stable with the same figures week after week. What we saw this spring was a faster descent. Unfortunately, we don’t see a dramatic reduction that we expected, says Health and Medical Director Björn Eriksson, adding:

– It has been too high a level for too long. It is incredibly difficult for our employees.

Björn Eriksson believes, however, that the situation will become more tense for medical care after the New Year’s weekend.

– Every year it is always after New Years when you seek attention and it is usually more difficult around the thirteenth weekend.

The Gävleborg region has Since the beginning of November there has been a sharp upward curve in the number of hospitalized corona patients. But since mid-December, there has been a slowdown in patients in the wards, which continued through the Christmas weekend.

Between December 16 and 23, the National Board of Health and Welfare, which has the big picture at the national level, has seen an increase in the number of patients with covid-19 in intensive care rooms and in other rooms. The agency’s prognosis is that hospitalized patients with covid-19 will continue to increase. The national situation will be updated at Tuesday’s press conference.
