The purpose of a new pandemic law is to provide the government and other authorities the opportunity to introduce measures to slow the spread of the infection. The law could provide the opportunity to limit opening hours and the number of people: anyone who violates the ban can be punished with a fine.

The activities that can be covered are

  • public meetings and public events
  • places for leisure or cultural activities
  • shops, shopping centers
  • public transport
  • venues, such as banquet halls and private meeting venues
  • public places, such as parks and bathing areas

The Riksdag convened in the first week of January to consider the new pandemic law.

The Government has proposed that the law enter into force on March 15, 2021 and apply until March 31, 2022.
