“Wonder Woman 1984” is a bigger hit than expected in the cinema.
The new superhero film “Wonder Woman 1984” posted the equivalent of 298 million SEK in international ticket revenue over the Christmas weekend, Reuters writes. It is more than expected during the corona pandemic and now the Warner Bros. film company confirms that it will be an upcoming third film in the series.
In the United States and Canada, the film’s revenue during the Christmas weekend was equivalent to 132 million Swedish crowns. It’s the most lucrative opening weekend for a major Hollywood movie since many of America’s theaters closed in March of this year.
At the same time, the film was released on the HBO Max streaming service, where the number of hours watched tripled on Friday when the film was released. The new “Wonder Woman” movie will also feature Israeli actor Gal Gadot in the lead role and the director / screenwriter is again Patty Jenkins.
