With a delay of just over a year, the premiere of “Beware of the Jönsson League” on the streaming service C More on Christmas Day.
In the new beginning of the cult film series, 43-year-old Henrik Dorsin takes on the role of league leader Charles-Ingvar “Sickan” Jönsson. Anders “Ankan” Johansson, 46, is Vanheden and David Sundin, 44, Dynamit-Harry.
Doris is made by “Our Time is Now” star Hedda Stiernstedt, 33.
She was hired a few years ago by director Tomas Alfredson for a short film on the “Bergman Revisited” project, and was later offered the role.
– I just said “yes” and then asked “what kind of movie is it?” Then he said it was “Jönssonligan”. That wasn’t what he had imagined he would do next, says Hedda Stiernstedt.
– He’s a fantastic director. That’s why I said yes before I knew what kind of movie it was.
He laughed and she cried
Before filming, Hedda Stiernstedt met actress Birgitta Andersson, who played Doris in old movies.
– She said “Oh, what fun you’re going to have fun.” And so do we. I’ve never had fun at work before, she says and laughs.
Working with three comedians became something new.
– I have always gone and delved into my own emotional life about anxiety and thoughts. Now I laughed so hard that I cried every day.
“Standup that takes place 24/7”
Henrik Dorsin says he was “quiet” the whole time.
– David Sundin has the internal nickname “Snackson”. It goes on all the time and then Ankan says something that should be profound. While Hedda has a rather bitter and cynical humor, she says and jokingly adds:
– And I myself am welcoming and nice.
According to Hedda Stiernstedt, they were “running all the time.”
– It was so confusing for me at first. Because I usually keep quiet and listen to music. At first I was just listening, but then I started participating in my own way and posting comments. It’s like having a standup that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, he says.
A barrel of mayonnaise
The movie contains a lot of action and special effects. Hedda Stiernstedt is still upset about a failed stunt.
– I got a trick I had to do myself – and failed. I couldn’t finish it, so we fixed it, he says.
– I got in the car on the go. They had built the ledge where I would be too low, so I would slip every time I got on it. They didn’t have time to rebuild it. In the end, I had to stop when I entered the scene.
Henrik Dorsin admits that at least he did all his stunts.
– I hang outside an air traffic control tower with harnesses. One take. Then I got into a barrel with mayonnaise as well. It was quite uncomfortable, he says.
The mayonnaise, which was actually a cheap skin cream, gave her a rash.
– I turned completely red as a crayfish afterwards. But that’s what is included. I heard when someone asked Tomás why he didn’t have a specialist, “There is no one who can replace that body.” No one can look so bottle-shaped. So I have to do my own stunts, for credibility.
“Honor the old ones”
They play popular characters that many already have a clear idea of. It became a balancing act to pay homage to the old and at the same time make something new.
Mother Doris, for example, has been given a more active role.
– She is the toughest of all. I’m tired of seeing tough girls who aren’t allowed to be women at the same time. They must have masculine attributes. For me, it felt cooler to do a girl with a lot of lipstick and very long, loose nails that are both cute and hard, says Hedda Stiernstedt.
Henrik Dorsin, co-author of the script, studied Gösta Ekman’s rendition of the ingenious “Sickan” but also turned to the Danish model, the band Olsen.
– He wanted to find his own input, which in my case is that he has a different self-confidence than old Sickan. He knows he’s better. He doesn’t have the same feeling of revenge in him.
All script work was characterized by the same thought, according to Henrik Dorsin.
– Honor the old, but do not try to make a copy and take a free ride, create your own universe.
