Today, the first Swedes are vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.

The initial delivery that arrived on the second day was 9,750 doses and should be enough to vaccinate nearly 4,900 people.

The first doses should be offered to people living in special nursing homes or people receiving home care. It will also offer to strengthen domestic contacts with these people, as well as with the staff.

Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Skåne have received 425 doses, the remaining regions have received 200.

The Stockholm Region writes in a press release that they have selected a couple of special homes for the elderly who will be allowed to go first. Initially, it is not possible to reserve a vaccine, but the first to be vaccinated have been selected and offered the vaccine.

Prime Minister: “Light in the dark”

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven welcomes in a statement on the government website that vaccines can now start.

– A light in this darkness is the vaccine. A year ago, covid-19 was unknown. Vaccination against covid-19 begins today throughout Sweden and in the EU. It is a good note for science and for humanity, it says and continues:

– The coronavirus has affected us as a country and as people. Many have passed away, even more have lost a dear friend, family member or colleague. People have become unemployed and many have seen their life’s work disappear as a result of the economic consequences of the pandemic. Nursing and healthcare staff have been struggling for a long time.

He also emphasizes that the danger is far from over:

– We must continue to follow the recommendations of the authorities, such as keeping our distance, washing our hands. We will endure and persevere, a little more.

Starting next week, deliveries of the order of 80,000 weekly doses are expected to Sweden.

The goal is to be able to offer vaccines to the entire adult population in Sweden during the first half of 2021.
