The mutated corona virus is terrorizing the Premier League.
Wolverhamptons prohibits its players from shopping in supermarkets.
“It’s about protecting ourselves,” coach Nuno Espirito Santo told the BBC.
A new mutated coronavirus has been discovered in various locations in England. On the second day, the Swedish Public Health Agency announced that a person in Sörmland, who had traveled here to celebrate Christmas, had been sickened by the new variant.
As the number of infections in England increases, so does the concern about bringing the infection to Premier League teams.
– Since the beginning of the pandemic, our kitchen staff has put together drawers with the most important things we need when the pandemic is at its worst, everyone had it. When it got better, we said it was okay for players to buy themselves. But now the levels are rising again and there is a new variant of the virus that worries everyone, so we are back again, Wolverhampton coach Nuno Espirito Santo tells the BBC.
Buying on your own is prohibited
To protect players from infection, Wolverhampton, which is ranked 11th in the table, now prohibits its players from shopping for groceries on their own.
– It’s about protecting ourselves. So the players and their families don’t go to the grocery stores, says the coach.
Today, Wolverhampton face Tottenham at home. The game is played without an audience. Due to restrictions, spectators are only allowed at Liverpool and Everton matches.
