It is as if the present was inspired by the dystopia that Chekhov wrote more than 120 years ago. On a Russian farm, young Sonja and her uncle Vanja fight to make farming profitable: to send money to Sonja’s father, who is a little more academic. He appears on the farm with his new wife Jelena. The plot also includes Astrov, a depressed village doctor who maps what happens to nature. All are prisoners in their own perspective.
