Patrick Ekwall, 55, and Hannah Ekwall, 38, received the worst possible news last month: Hannah’s cancer had spread to the liver.

In a lengthy interview with Expressen, Patrick Ekwall talks about a life turned upside down and the support the family has received from all possible sources.

For eight months, Hannah Ekwall was treated for breast cancer, and late last month the family was told it had spread to the liver.

This after they previously thought the worst was over.

– It really is a nightmare. Sometimes you wake up in the morning and feel, “No, this wasn’t really true, was it?” Then take two seconds and you realize it was, says her husband and sportswriter Patrick Ekwall in a lengthy interview with Expressen.

– This is not something you want even for your worst enemies. We expect miracles. And it should work. Somehow it has to go. How I don’t know, but somehow it must go.

The couple, since the first breast cancer diagnosis was made in March 2020, has been open with their situation on social networks, where they have been able to follow their difficult fight against the disease.

Want to donate organs

An opening that in turn gives a great response from outsiders. In the interview with Expressen, he talks about women with cancer who are grateful for the couple’s candor and the athletes and national team captains, people Patrick Ekwall has not even met, have expressed their support.

Among other things, two people have offered to donate parts of their liver through social media.

– Now it doesn’t help with a liver transplant in this case, but you feel… I regain faith in humanity. People are eager to help.
