Maja, 104, has survived two world wars and two pandemics

In early December, Maja Sjöberg felt bad. At the nursing home in Gothenburg, a corona test was performed, which came back positive.

– My dad sent an email to everyone close and told me about Grandma. It was a lot of work, says her granddaughter Ellika Custhag, 49.

It was a painful wait for the family, made up of five generations.

– One wondered how he would go and in which direction his mind would turn. He had a high fever, cough, and runny nose. On December 17 they told us that she was fine and on December 21 she was declared healthy.

Survived the Spanish disease and World War II

Ellika Custhag describes it as the best Christmas present.

– She is a true fighter. She has been through a lot. He survived the Spanish flu and the world war, things he just read about in school.

What does grandmother say about winning against covid-19?

– She is very happy. So he thinks it’s fun to be in the magazine, he’s never been before, says Ellika, who also spoke with Göteborgs-Posten.

Quiet christmas

Maja Sjöberg has good contact with her large family, says Ellika. Before the pandemic broke out, the family often greeted Maja.

– The last time I visited was last spring, but now, sadly, nothing has happened, says Ellika.

However, it’s no wonder that this year’s holiday celebration has gotten quieter. It is as always.

– Grandma hasn’t been with the last few years. But when my grandfather was alive, who was also over 100 years old, they participated almost always. Now he celebrates Christmas in the accommodation, which he enjoys very much. We usually visit it at Christmas, but hopefully we can visit it again soon, says Ellika.
