After a period of unemployment and drug addiction, Annsofie, 40, of Hallsberg, had managed to find a new job.

HALLSBERG. After a time of unemployment and drug addiction, Annsofie, 40, of Hallsberg, had managed to find a new job.

But the allergy was short.

A social secretary called the new employer and told him about Annsofie’s abuse, and minutes later she was fired.

There is a Christmas atmosphere in the home of Annsofie Henriksson and her children. The new apartment is decorated and the living room is cozy and welcoming.

– It was resolved, I got a new contract, it says about the house.

I think his story also has a bit of the character of a Christmas story.

A story where hope wins.

It all started two years ago, in the fall of 2018.

Annsofie was fired for lack of work. The trauma of losing her job made her feel stressed and depressed. He was on sick leave and a doctor prescribed medicine. She had a drug overdose and soon became addicted to drugs. At the same time, he was finding it increasingly difficult to pay his bills. Försäkringskassan did not approve her sick leave and Annsofie was forced to seek financial support from social services. The complicated situation soon put her at risk of being evicted from her four-room apartment in Hallsberg.

– Then I realized that now, now I have to look for work. Otherwise, I end up on the street, says Annsofie.

A social worker called the new employer and told him about Annsofie’s abuse, and minutes later she was fired.

Despite the turbulence, she forced herself to search for job postings.

– I applied for 16 jobs in the immediate area where I live and in the end I got a pacifier, he says.

Annsofie received an offer to jump into a temporary part-time position in a warehouse and could start as soon as the next day. With the new job, he was able to persuade the landlord to get a break from the rents, now that he knew he would have a steady income.

Social services gave him a bus card so that he could get to the workplace and for a moment Annsofie felt like he had solid ground under his feet.

He decided to stop all the medications and put his life in order.

But the calm did not last long.

– Day number three at the new job, this social secretary who had given me the bus card calls. He wondered if he could meet me at work.

He decided to stop all medication and get his life in order.

Annsofie was uncomfortable with someone from social services visiting the workplace. So she refused, politely but firmly.

– I said: I have arranged this job on my own, I don’t want to be associated with soc at my workplace.

Then the social secretary got upset.

– She said: As much as I have put you in line, with bus passes and everything. One thing you should know, I don’t think you have a job.

Annsofie did not know how to respond to the comment. She replied that it would be better if they talked about this another day. Then they hung up.

Half an hour later, the boss called Annsofie to a meeting.

– He said that he had done a great job, but that they had chosen not to retain me because of what the social secretary had told me, he says.

Annsofie was uncomfortable when someone from social services visited her at work. So she refused, politely but firmly.

The manager issued a certificate of completion. This says that someone from social services called you to tell you about Annsofie’s substance abuse problems. Since then, the information has been important to the termination of Annsofie’s employment, though the manager questions whether she really has anything to do with them and whether they should be reasonably confidential.

Annsofie realized that the possibility of keeping the apartment was small, now that she was suddenly back on a bare hill. But something else had also come to life: the feeling that this was completely wrong and that she had to defend her rights.

– So I took the certificate and went to IVO, the health and care inspection.

– There they told me I ended up in the wrong place. The woman who read the certificate said “this is what you should go to the police with, this is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

Annsofie followed the advice and reported the actions of the social secretary to the police. Shortly after, she was evicted from the apartment.

– They told me I had a few hours to empty the house. They took all the children’s toys, I never had time to take them.

Homeless or jobless and with a heavy addiction in her luggage, Annsofie sought help from Örebro’s social services. This time, he received better support and underwent a 12-step program to get rid of his drug addiction. He hopped between various apartments before finally finding a new job in Hallsberg.

Homeless or jobless and with a heavy addiction in her luggage, Annsofie sought help from Örebro’s social services.

This time he ended up with an employer who knew his background. He managed to get a contract for a house again and the children were able to see their old friends again.

And now, in the last few days, charges have been brought against the social secretary who threw his legs off. It is reasonably suspected that the woman from the social services violates the duty of confidentiality and faces a maximum of one year in prison. The accused woman denies during interrogation that she disclosed classified information.
The impeachment is a victory for Annsofie, but she still feels no revenge.

– You can never take revenge on a sick person. On the other hand, other people who have had this problem, who may be suffering from a mental illness or have made mistakes in other contexts, can be urged to take care of their rights. These safety nets that we have should help us, not tear them down. It’s about defending yourself and others, says Annsofie.
