Sun Yang.
Swimmer Sun Yang, 29, shocked and released from his eight-year doping ban.
The reason?
The chairman of the panel that issued the suspension has expressed racist views about the Chinese.
The Chinese national icon is one of the greatest freestyle swimmers of all time, but he describes himself just as outside the pool.
In February he was suspended for eight years by the sports arbitration court Cas, after refusing to carry out a doping test at his home in 2018.
The closure is lifted
The suspension of the federal court in Switzerland is now lifted, reports the New York Times.
Franco Frattini, chairman of the Cas panel that convicted Sun Yang, has been found to speak disparagingly and racist about Chinese on Twitter in relation to animal rights issues.
The swimmer’s attorneys questioned the impartiality of the panel and therefore Sun Yang is free to compete again. However, the anti-doping organization Wada has announced that they will continue the case again.
Frattini could not be reached Wednesday for comment on the allegations, the newspaper writes.
Crushed by hammers
The controversial swimmer has been suspended for three months for doping violations since 2014. During the home visit in 2018, members of Yang’s team must have broken the doping test with a hammer.
Sun Yang has, among other things, nine World Cup golds and three Olympic golds on the merit list.
