The night before Wednesday, the police received an alarm that a man had broken the windows of an apartment building in the center of Eksjö.

When the man, who was 25 years old, was to be arrested, according to Jonas Lindell, something of a dispute arose. This led to the police firing several shots, at least one of which hit.

– This address is quite close to the hospital. Due to the short distance and the critical condition of the man, it is assessed that he needs immediate attention. They put him in the police car and during CPR they take him to the emergency room, says Jonas Lindell.

– CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) continues to the hospital, where unfortunately this man’s life cannot be saved.

“Violent attack”

The murdered man was already known to the police and, according to Jonas Lindell, had some kind of refuge. None of the police officers were physically injured in the incident.

– There is a fight, riot, some form of violent attack. The police have received some violence, but have not suffered physical injuries.

The incident has been reported to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, which will investigate what happened. Therefore, Jonas Lindell does not want to enter the exact course of events.

Out of service

The two police patrols that were at the scene were first taken out of service after the incident.

– They were allowed to go home and we will implement the staff promotion measures as they should with help talks and other things during the day, says Jonas Lindell.

– What will be a big focus for us and for me is taking care of my staff, the police who have been involved in this.
