On Christmas Eve, a total of 490 people are treated in the regional hospital, 46 of them in the intensive care unit.
490 is more than 100 more than the peak of the first wave this spring.
– It is a very serious and stressful situation for our care staff, said Ann Söderström, director of medical and health in the region on Monday.
Sahlgrenska University Hospital has now surpassed the spring figure, the last two days the figure has increased by 19 patients.
More than 200 are cared for in Sahlgrenska
203 people are now being treated at the hospital, this spring there were at most 192.
Since Monday, the number of patients has also increased at Väster Hospitals, which has a new peak with 66 patients seen at the same time.
Skaraborg Hospital sees a small increase since Monday, with two patients.
Södra Älvsborg Hospital sees a marginal decline, the number of patients treated there is now 74, compared to 75 on Monday.
NU health has a greater reduction in the number of patients, where nine fewer are treated than on Monday.
The spread of covid-19 also remains very high in society.

This applies to all of us, regardless of age. The spread of the infection continues to increase and affects society as a whole, says Thomas Wahlberg, an infection control physician in a press release.
