Since November last year, Frida Karlsson has been sponsored by Petter Northug’s ski goggle brand. The 21-year-old Swedish star chooses to continue the collaboration, despite the fact that the Norwegian has been sentenced to seven months in prison for speeding and drug possession and had his driver’s license revoked for life.

– I really enjoy the Northug brand and company as partners. They have really supported me through my ups and downs and now I feel like now is the time to give back and support when it is difficult for them. It will not affect (the prison sentence), Frida Karlsson tells TT.

“Very bad”

On Monday, the Oslo District Court announced the verdict against former ski star Northug, who in August got stuck at a speed check outside Gardermoen airport, driving 168 kilometers per hour on a 110 highway. of which, the police found drugs at Northug’s home.

– He should receive the same punishment and be treated as anyone. I guess that’s the verdict because if it had been an ordinary “Svensson,” says Frida Karlsson, who has remained in the sponsorship collaboration with Northug’s company throughout the legal process, and continues:

– What you’ve done is bad enough so it’s probably a fair verdict.

Together on TV shows

This summer, before the scandal, Frida Karlsson and Petter Northug filmed a television program together, with the Swede as the participant and the Norwegian as the presenter in pairs with Gunde Svan.

TT: How does (the prison sentence) affect your reputation as an athlete and person?

– As an athlete, it does not affect anything. But it is difficult for him as a person, he is in a difficult period and it can be anyone. It requires you to make a change and you have been very careful to push for it to do so.

On January 12, the program “Sweden against Norway” opens in Sweden on TV4.

– They were hectic days, two strong-willed teams, a lot of adrenaline and competition surcharges, says Karlsson about the recording.
