The first corona vaccine is on its way to Sweden.
425 doses will be sent to the three metropolitan regions; the others will receive 200 doses each.
The first to be vaccinated will be accommodation in nursing homes.
According to vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström, the first vaccine is on its way to Sweden and is expected to arrive in the next few days.
The first delivery consists of small initial doses, a total of 9,750 pieces. Half of the doses go directly to the regions; the other half is saved because each person who gets vaccinated must take two doses.
According to the municipalities and regions of Sweden, the three metropolitan regions of Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Skåne will receive 425 doses each. The other regions will receive 200 doses each.
So the regions are responsible for who will get the first vaccine.
– Regions have looked at priority groups. Many regions are starting to vaccinate in special housing, says Emma Spak, manager of the medical and health care section of the municipalities and regions of Sweden.

The new delivery will arrive shortly after
After the first initial delivery, a larger delivery of around 90,000 doses is expected. The Swedish Public Health Agency is responsible for the distribution of these. According to Emma Spak, the distribution to the different regions is based on population data and the size of the largest population in the region.
Accommodation in special dwellings (homes for the elderly) is prioritized, those that have extensive home care, personal housing and coexistence for people with home care.
– It is to create a vaccinated group around the most vulnerable, says Emma Spak.
A tight schedule
What do you see as challenges for the regions?
– The big challenge is the unpredictability in deliveries. This is a new vaccine and the regions are now receiving information on how to handle it, exactly how to mix it, and how to promise it will be handled. It’s a busy schedule to make a complex business work.
Emma Spak adds that regions have a habit of vaccinating against seasonal influenza.
– You can use the base for that. But this is more extensive while dealing with several different vaccines.
