British police divert traffic at the Dover ferry terminal.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed on a plan to re-allow freight between the countries.
The border was closed this weekend after a new contagious corona mutation was discovered in the UK.
According to the public service channel BBC, which refers to the French EU minister, Clément Beaune, already on Wednesday he will be allowed to transport goods between the countries, which are connected by the channel tunnel between Dover and Calais.
British Home Secretary Priti Patel is more moderate in his description of the situation, saying that talks will continue on Tuesday.
– We are in regular contact with our French colleagues on a number of issues. The work has been underway for the past 24 hours and will continue today, Patel told Sky television.
“In the interests of both”
To a direct question about whether an agreement will be reached on Tuesday, Patel responds:
– We work to reach a solution, it is in the interest of both parties to ensure that the flows work. We will see what the day wears on his lap.
This weekend, several countries stopped traveling to and from the UK due to a contagious mutation of the coronavirus that is spreading in the country. France also stopped all transport of goods between countries operated by human hands. On Monday, Sweden followed suit, stopping travel from the UK and Denmark, where the new variation was also discovered.
Extend control
According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, there is no indication that the new variant of the coronavirus causes a more serious illness. In addition to the UK and Denmark, isolated infections have also been reported in the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia and South Africa.
The Swedish Public Health Agency will expand the control of samples for covid-19, to investigate if the new mutation already exists in Sweden.
