ÖSTERSUND. After an impressive shot in Monday’s sprint, Stina Nilsson’s goal is set for the IBU Cup.

– Yes absolutely. It’s a must, says coach Jean-Marc Chabloz.

After a chaotic sprint race on Sunday, Stina Nilsson immediately got her revenge. She admits that she was extremely dissatisfied with Sunday’s effort and has a lot to work on.

– He wasn’t safe. For me, I become quite vulnerable, I don’t feel like I have a shot where I know my good shots are good, I become insecure. Then I can’t let go, then I start to think about whether I should fuck off or like that, he tells himself later.

The observing competitions in Östersund were Stina Nilsson’s only second weekend of competition. While the World Cup circus focused on two competition venues ahead of the New Year, the International Biathlon Federation, IBU, decided to cancel the IBU Cup. National competitions in Sweden were also canceled due to the corona pandemic.

– It is very important that she can compete because this is something else. It is an increased tension. You notice that. I saw it in her today, says coach Jean-Marc Chabloz.

“He’s an entertainer”

The Swiss, who is the shooting coach of the Swedish biathlon team, has not faced Nilsson in a month as he has been absent from the World Cup competitions in Kontiolax and Hochfilzen.

As soon as the competitions were over on Sunday, he returned to Östersund to see his competition expert.

– I don’t want it to be that significant. He’s a great entertainer. I didn’t know if it would get here, but when I saw it here I shone like a sun, says Nilsson.

On Tuesday, the Swedish team will be eliminated for the IBU Cup. When Chabloz receives questions about whether Stina Nilsson should have the opportunity, it is clear to him, but he also points out that it is not him who makes the final decision.

“It is a must”

– Get this experience from the entire competition element. Being able to compete in these acute situations. That is why you need international experience. It’s getting a little bit bigger. There are 100 girls and 100 boys competing. Many officials. Security control. There is a lot of calm on the side that Stina doesn’t watch closely. It is clear that this will be a challenge. She needs it. You need this challenge to keep going.

Nilsson is keenly aware of the steps she needs to take and, unlike the first competitions in Idre a month ago, she now feels ready to compete in the IBU Cup.

– I hope I have reinforced the actions. I have to learn to compete. It’s not just about the embankment, but how to physically put it on the track. I still have 7.5 km to go in the best way. I have not yet learned to “pacea” to get into a shot like this perfectly, so there are many lessons to be learned, he tells Sportbladet.

Chabloz even believes that it is imperative in Stina Nilsson’s long-term plan that she is selected and allowed to run the IBU Cup.

– Yes absolutely. It is a must. Find stability in the IBU Cup and then be able to look beyond.
