Interior Minister Mikael Damberg, Foreign Minister Ann Linde and Swedish Public Health Agency Director General Johan Carlson held an online press conference on Monday afternoon in which they announced, as expected, that there would be an entry ban from the UK, to try to stop the spread of the new variant of the coronavirus.
During the press conference, Mikael Damberg described it as bad news, which comes to protect health personnel.
The flights are stopped
All non-Swedish citizens traveling from the UK will be turned away when traveling to Sweden. The ban will take effect from midnight. The government has also decided to stop all UK passenger planes for 48 hours, pending a common route at the EU level.
Everyone who has traveled from the UK since December 12 is now invited to try COVID-19. Swedes who have traveled from the UK must remain in home quarantine for seven days.
The government has also decided to close the border with Denmark, also starting at midnight.
The plan has landed today
Several UK passenger flights land in Arlanda today. But so far no special measures have been taken for passengers.
At 10.30 today, a British Airways flight landed in Arlanda from London. The company has a total of three scheduled arrivals to Arlanda from London today, and SAS one arrival flight.
Swedavia, which Arlanda operates, will not discriminate against passengers getting off the plane from the UK. No special measures are being taken, the TT news agency reported Monday morning.
