Christmas is approaching and in parking lots, soccer fields and squares across the country, associations sell Christmas trees. Perhaps it is one of the few things that is going better as a result of the corona pandemic than in a long time?
So it is for the Dalen / Krokslätts FF football association in Mölndal, which started this year’s sale during the third weekend of Advent.
– The first two days we sold more than 200 fir trees, for us it is a lot. Normally, we could sell 50 firs in two days, says Dan Johansson, president of the club that sells Christmas trees on his Krokslättsvallen land, in Krokslätts torg and in Toltorpsdalen.
This is the fortieth year that the association has sold fir trees in Mölndal and the pressure on the trees has long been as great as this year.
– 40 years ago it was probably better than today, considering plastic spruce and stuff now, but this is better than many years.

Big money in tough times
This year, one of the association’s teams has distributed brochures with information about the sale in about 1,500 mailboxes, which had not been done before. But Dan Johansson doesn’t think that’s the sole reason for the sales increase.
– We have seen that the one who starts buying fir trees is a little younger and it is probably because everyone is at home for as long as possible.
However, due to the pandemic, which may be the reason for the success of the Dalen / Krokslätt sales, it was not certain that there would be sales this year.
– Some thought that we should not drive but we said that we had to, because it is important money. So we made sure to keep our distance and spray our hands. We have clear signs of where to go and you are not allowed to drive as usual.

Yes, that with money is important. The association usually receives around 55,000 SEK from the sale and this year more money is needed than ever.
– I think we’ve done relatively well considering that as soon as (the corona pandemic) started this spring, we went in and changed the budget and we knew we had to stay tight on the money. But this means that the budget goes together for next year, if we had not sold fir trees, we would have lost 50,000 SEK.
What is the money used for?
– We use them to buy materials and things for the young and old.
