During the year of the pandemic, the deficiencies in our country have become clear and “we are not going to go back there”, says Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) in his Christmas speech. – After the crisis, we will build Sweden stronger, he says.

Löfven’s Christmas speech was almost exclusively about the crown pandemic and how it affected the population. The Prime Minister returned several times on the sacrifices and losses of the individual, and on how the pandemic has made many understand the value of the community.
– We have been forced to re-evaluate certain things this year. When everything is going as it should, it’s easy to think that it’s just strong, that you can handle it on your own. But then something unexpected or sad happens. So it often turns out that loneliness is rarely something to have on hand when there is a crisis, Löfven says in the speech.
Löfven thanked the Swedes last year and promised a different Sweden after the pandemic.
– This year the deficiencies in the organization of our country have become clear. We will not go back there.
– After the crisis, we will build Sweden stronger, better. Care for the elderly, security, medical care, school – we have to make it even stronger. We must learn from the capacity for cooperation that our country has shown this year. We will use that force when dealing with other social problems, says Löfven.
