The moderate leader Ulf Kristersson is concerned about the new variant of the coronavirus that is spreading in the UK and has been discovered in Denmark. Now it demands a travel ban.

Sweden should quickly introduce a UK entry ban and Swedes coming from there should be screened and quarantined pending a response, Kristersson writes on Facebook.

“Now the government must not repeat the mistake of last spring.”

Countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy have announced that they will stop traveling to and from the UK due to the new strain of the coronavirus. The World Health Organization also calls on European countries to increase controls due to the spread.

Also in Denmark

At the same time, Israel is tightening its travel restrictions in Denmark, due to the new variant of the virus. The infection has been confirmed in nine people there, Danmarks Radio reports.

It was on Saturday that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to the streets and warned that a mutated strain of virus had started to spread in south-east England. It’s said to be 70 percent more contagious, but it shouldn’t cause more serious illness.

UD: It depends on everyone

The Swedish Foreign Office does not advise against traveling to the UK.

– The security situation in all parts of the world is reviewed all the time and can be changed in a very short time. But at the moment there is no change for that, says Sara Brynedal, press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Discouragement to travel has been based mainly on how easy or difficult it is for Swedes to travel from different places and not on the severity of the infection situation related to covid-19.

– It is up to everyone to read well and follow local restrictions and recommendations, says Sara Brynedal.
