People who have previously had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine should see a doctor before getting vaccinated against COVID-19, says the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is releasing guidelines for allergy sufferers, following reports that some people have had severe allergic reactions since receiving the Pfizer and Biontech covid-19 vaccine.
People who have previously had severe allergic reactions to another vaccine should consult a doctor before taking the vaccine, according to the CDC.
And those who have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the vaccine in question should not get vaccinated. Anyone who reacts strongly to the first vaccine injection is also discouraged from the second injection.
On the other hand, the CDC notes that it is free for people who have severe allergies to, for example, oral medications, food, pets, or various environmental conditions to get vaccinated. People who have close relatives who have had severe allergic reactions can also get vaccinated.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating five cases of allergic reactions to Pfizer and Biontech’s covid-19 vaccine, which was quickly approved in the country last week.
The next vaccine in turn, that of the American pharmaceutical company Moderna, was approved the other day in the United States. Authorities only recommend that people over the age of 18 take that vaccine, and advise anyone who has reacted strongly to any of the ingredients in the vaccine not to get vaccinated.
