Brundtland’s tough verdict against Löfven and Tegnell

Gro Harlem Brundtland was Prime Minister of Norway three times during the 1980s and 1990s. She was also the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) from 1998 to 2003.

Brundtland is pleased with Norway’s handling of the corona pandemic, but the same certainly doesn’t apply to the neighboring country. The latest figures show that 367,120 people have been infected by covid-19 in Sweden and 7,993 have died, compared with just over 43,000 people infected and 404 dead in Norway, according to Worldometers.

Gro Harlem Brundtland: “How is this possible?”

Brundtland believes that the Swedish Public Health Agency, led by state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, has not done enough in its recommendations to combat the spread of the infection in Sweden.

– It’s amazing that they have followed the evaluations that the Public Health Agency has done for so long, Brundtland tells VG.

Gro Harlem Brundtland praises the decision to further tighten restrictions in Sweden, but still blames leading politicians for the country’s high death rates compared to its Nordic neighbors.

– I have looked at the development, I shook my head and asked myself: How is this possible? How Anders Tegnell has assessed the situation is one thing, but Sweden is a country with a government and a parliament, Brundtland tells VG.
