A new variant of the coronavirus has been discovered in the UK.
The variant should be significantly more contagious.
– It can be up to 70 percent more contagious, says Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Britain is now further tightening the rules regarding the pandemic. Prime Minister Boris Johnson says a new variant of the virus has been discovered that appears to be much more contagious.
Up to 70 percent more contagious, according to Johnson.
– There are many things we still do not know. There is no evidence that the vaccine is not effective against a new variant. Experts are working to get more information, he says at a press conference.
There is also no information that the new variant could cause a more serious illness. That’s what Patrick Vallance, a British government advisor and expert, says.
Now enter “step 4” in London
Christmas won’t be business as usual in the UK, according to Boris Johnson.
– With great regret I announce that we will not be able to celebrate Christmas as planned, he says.
“Step 4” is now being introduced in the fight against the virus in London and south-east Britain. This means that all residents of the area must stay home. You can only meet one person outside your home.

Everyone must work from home unless there are special circumstances.
Unnecessary shops and the gym are closed. Pubs and restaurants are already closed.
Sharp increase in the number of patients
People who live in a “step 4” area cannot leave that area.
– We must be realistic. We must not meet our loved ones this Christmas. Instead, we’ll protect them so they can reunite next Christmas, says Boris Johnson.
The “step 4” measure in London and south-east Britain expires tomorrow. The reason is a sharp increase in the number of infected people who have had to seek medical attention in the areas.
In other parts of the country, people from up to three households can meet on Christmas Eve.
Previously, the government reported that people from up to three households could meet for five days this Christmas, but now it only applies on Christmas Eve.
The Foreign Office has no new advice against traveling to or from the UK during Christmas.
– We have no requirements for quarantine if you travel to Sweden, says Sara Brynedal, press release for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Aftonbladet is looking to the Swedish Public Health Agency for comment on the new variant of the virus that was discovered in the UK.
